The Heartland Emu Marketing Coop is a 501 value-added
cooperative formed between Iowa emu farmers. Established in 1997,
Heartland provides an outlet for emus produced by the cooperative's members.
Products include emu oil, emu
meats, and skin care products
made with emu oil. Heartland Emu Marketing Coop
is also a member of the American Emu
Association.
Some say emu meat is a nutritional goldmine.
Others call it the "superfood of the New Millennium".
Recent results from a study of alternative red meats by The University
of Wisconsin-Madison confirm early reports, finding emu lower in fat and
higher in protein and other nutrients -- when compared with bison, venison,
elk and ostrich. Additional comparisons found emu
meat lower in fat than chicken, turkey, pork and beef. The
American Heart Association recently included emu meat in its listing of
heart-healthy meats.

Emu Oil was discovered centuries ago in the
Outback regions of Western Australia.
Known as the "bush recipe" by native Australians, they
relied on this rich and potent oil as the base to their traditional medicines
to aid in the speedy relief of: Joint and Muscle Pain, Wound and Trauma
Recovery, Skin Disorders from the harsh climate. The oil is used in many
skin care products to aid in sun burn
relief, insect bites, psoriasis, eczema and dry rough skin. Other products
include, shampoo, conditioner and dietary supplements. All
of these value-added emu products can be ordered through Heartland
Emu Marketing Coop.
A couple of examples of what emu oil can do for you:
"Many travelers don't realize that taking along emu
oil makes summer vacation more comfortable and therefore more enjoyable,"
said Neil Williams, former president of the American Emu Association.
"By applying
a small amount, you can take the burn out of a sunburn and sidestep
the peeling phase. You can take the sting out of most insect bites and
soothe chafing after a day's sight-seeing. And with emu oil, you can
prevent dry skin and chapped lips in any climate."
Julie Brumlik, founder of a line of emu
oil-based skin care products she markets from Miami, FL, said her
first formulas were used by dermatologists for patients who had undergone
dermabrasion (a skin resurfacing procedure) and to treat post-sunburn.
"The results were remarkable. Emu oil consistently promoted healing
of sunburned skin, stopped the stinging and prevented tightness
and peeling," said Brumlik. "Would I travel without it - across the
state or across Europe? Absolutely not!"
